I made this up the other day when I wanted some ice cream, but didn't want all the calories that come with it!
I threw a few things in a blender:
Bunch of ice
1 cup of almond milk
1 banana
2 scoops of chocolate whey protein
I'm not gonna mislead you, it ain't ice cream! But it was a cold, chocolaty, creamy-textured treat. And when you consider the calories involved, it makes it a whole lot easier to love it!
My concoction made 9 cups total.
The calories of all the ingredients were:
Almond milk (30 calories)
Banana (~110 calories)
Whey protein (240 calories)
Total: 380 calories
Per Serving: 21 calories (1/2 cup is the standard serving size for ice cream*)
*Not for me! But that is what you find on most ice cream containers.
For comparison, here are the calories per serving of some ice creams and other frozen desserts:
Frozen custard: ~200 calories
Soft serve: ~180 calories
Traditional ice cream: ~140 calories
Frozen dessert: ~130 calories
Low fat ice cream: ~125 calories
Sherbet: ~107 calories
Gelato: ~90 calories
Frozen yogurt: ~90 calories
Low calorie ice cream: ~60 calories
Creamy Chocolate-Banana Frozen Treat: ~21 calories
Like I said, it ain't ice cream! But being able to enjoy a cold, creamy, chocolaty treat with almost no guilt is pretty cool!
I ended up eating about half of what I made, so that would be 4 1/2 cups and 190 calories.
Warning: this stuff does not freeze well. It is best to just make what you will eat immediately. I froze the other half and ate it the next day, but it was a totally different experience and nowhere near as good.
I have tried making this without the banana, but it changes the texture in a bad way. The banana pulp helps make the mixture creamy and fluffy.
Have a great day!
